Professional Experience
Throughout my career I have built a three-tiered approach to become an Ecologist well suited for the 21st Century. This generally is constructed off the pillars of Computer Science, Environmental Science, and Environmental Policy. Webbed throughout this are hard skills like statistics, modelling, system design, and data stewardship, but are useless without the soft skills of scientific communication, presentation, listening, and empathy.
My niche specialty is using Drones for Environmental research and expanding our understanding of the natural world. I am a recognized authority is UAV research design, mission planning, data acquisition, data processing, modeling, and resulting implementation of informed decision making and operational or policy adjustment.
What makes for an exceptional systems designer and data scientist is a refined scope: the ability to see the comprehensive purpose of a system while also being capable of zooming into any distinct component - understanding the underlying mechanics and purpose. This ability requires more than just an analytical mindset; a system is only useful if it creates value to those which use it. This stems from cultivating both a keen emotional insight into other people, and a detailed knowledge of several disciplines. This empowers me to tailor an organization's mission to a custom system, while accounting for the subtle nuances and needs of all the users. A true systems designer isn't just a techie - a true systems designer is a person who has successfully synthesized the fundamental components of computer science, complex problem solving, business/organizational practices, leadership, and emotional intelligence.

I worked with him for 2 years as his direct supervisor, though he worked very independently. Travis designed and built our IT department and MIS capabilities from scratch, including back-end database and front-end mobile phone reporting platform. In addition to being super smart and hardworking, he's also got high EQ and soft skills -- he's a stellar team player and inspiring mentor to those he manages. I'd hire him back in a heartbeat, and recommend him most highly to anyone considering working with him. " - Tevis Howard, Founder of Komaza
"Travis is one of those rare individuals you'll never forget. Travis has a talent for creativity. Not only could he visualize solutions to complex problems, but he knew how to make solutions that were simple and user friendly. Travis possesses the unique ability to see the whole picture, consider all angles, compromise, and deliver." - Brent Danberg, VP of Business Strategy "Travis is a brilliant developer and conversationalist. He's got an eye for creating efficiency and opportunity where others might get overwhelmed by the detail. He's a high impact player on all teams I've ever seen him be a part of." - Sterling Hamilton, Lead Developer @ Noble Studios |
