GRADUATE PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
RESEARCH ASSISTANT - Wildfire Risk Evaluation and Decision Making
University of Washington, Evans School of Public Policy and Governance & National Center for Atmospheric Research | Seattle | 08/2017 – 06/2018 | 20hrs/week
This research assesses the possible impact of improved fire potential information in the context of fire risk management and decision making. It models and simulates decisions related to positioning and mobility of fire-fighting resources, wildfire activity, and variations in climate.
RESEARCH ASSISTANT - Precision Forestry
University of Washington, School of Environmental & Forest Sciences & Washington State Dept. of Natural Resources | Seattle | 01/2016 – 06/2018 | 30hrs/week
Serving under the Precision Forestry Co-Op, involved in a variety of projects and field expeditions: either tasked with primary research responsibilities or offering other types of support.
TEACHING ASSISTANT - Remote Sensing of the Environment
Lead weekly labs, lectures, and discussions for Remote Sensing of the Environment
General Topics include:

- Researched federal wildfire policy, suppression-tactics, resource-allocation, historical statistics, and fire-related data collection, storage, and analyses
- Investigated literature on the scientific, economic, ecological, and management dynamics of US wildfire. Coded findings, created visuals, and integrated these into research plan
- Interviewed wildfire scientists, officers, technicians, and head decision-makers
- Located, collected, and analyzed various datasets used in addressing key research questions.
- Designed statistical models, interpreted results, and summarized findings.

Serving under the Precision Forestry Co-Op, involved in a variety of projects and field expeditions: either tasked with primary research responsibilities or offering other types of support.
- Designed field-data collection methods and created subsequent field guide
- Led and managed the crew responsible forest mensuration over 4-month season
- Formulated models that predicted various forest characteristics using lidar and imagery
- Published research findings with the Washington Department of Natural Resources
- Experimented with new methods using structure-from-motion technology
- Presented research-findings to various state, federal, and academic entities
- Piloted drones to acquire imagery and conducted terrestrial lidar scans
- Supported other research with technical and policy-related input
- Tutored undergraduates and contributed to student organizations and events
