TRAVIS AXE - 21st Century Ecologist
I explore and implement policies and technologies that bolster research and service capabilities of organizations that manage social and environmental interactions. I am a multi-faceted specialist, combining strong elements of forestry, wildfire, public policy, technology, and management. I am extremely effective in communicating to a wide range of audiences and in facilitating policies to address complex issues that involve diverse groups and multiple interests. My extensive technical skillset distinguishes me as natural resource manager well-suited for the 21st century.
With over 15 years of professional experience, I have dedicated the last eight to operational application and research in managing both forests and wildfires. This includes time as a wildland firefighter, a forest monitoring and evaluation director, a graduate researcher in both wildfire policy and precision forestry, and a research scientist in silviculture. For almost a decade I have been researching and implementing technology that pushes the ecological understanding and operational efficiency of industrial forestry and modern ecology. I am extremely proficient in managing and analyzing a multitude of datasets, whether it be ecological or economic. I have dedicated a huge effort to honing my planning, organizing, and management skills. I have contributed to many forest-related efforts through various organizations (Komaza, University of Washington, Washington DNR, US FS, US BLM, IFSA, Washington PFC, Society of American Foresters, Trees for Seattle).
My career has forged a dynamic perspective: the ability to see the big picture of a mission, while also possessing the skill to zoom into details and understand underlying function and purpose. I am a master in processing sophisticated scientific information and welding it with complex social systems, and my technical skillset enables me to achieve this on a “big data” scale. I can communicate effectively through many mediums and adjust to a range of audiences. I am highly independent, exceptionally self-motivated, and an extremely fast learner. I motivate others around me and lead with honesty, integrity, trust, and respect.
